Every joinery job leaves something behind: offcuts of timber and MDF, the old skirting and architrave that came off the walls, doors and frames we have taken out, and the packaging the new materials arrived in. On a kitchen fit or a full renovation, that adds up quickly.
Who takes our waste away
We work with a waste disposal company that is registered with the Environment Agency. It is contracted to work with us directly, so the waste from our jobs goes through a proper, registered route, not a man with a van and no paperwork.
For you, that means the waste from your job is dealt with correctly, and you never have to wonder where it ended up.
Why it matters to you
In England the law expects householders to take reasonable steps to make sure their household waste goes to someone authorised to take it. This is called the householder duty of care.
If you hand waste to someone who is not registered and it gets fly-tipped, you can be fined as well as the person who dumped it. A cheap collection from someone unregistered can end up costing more than it saved.
How to check any waste carrier yourself
The Environment Agency keeps a public register of waste carriers, brokers and dealers, and anyone can search it online: the Environment Agency public register. If someone offers to take waste away for you, ask for their waste carrier registration number and look it up first. A genuine carrier will not mind you asking.
