How much does a joiner charge per day?
£250 to £300.
Box & Beam’s own day rate, not a market average. It covers labour only, and materials are on top and listed in the quote. Doors and fire door sets are priced per door; most other work is priced by the days it takes.
How much does it cost to hang an internal door?
£65 to £85.
£65 to hang an eggshell door, £85 to hang an oak one. The door itself is priced separately unless you already have it, and anything beyond hanging it is on the written quote.
How much does it cost to fit an FD30 fire door?
£100 to £130.
To fit, per door set. If an existing door has to come out first, that is added on top. Fire doors for landlords and HMOs.
How much does it cost to fit a kitchen?
By the day.
Kitchens, decking and bathrooms are priced by the days they take at the day rate above, not by the metre. You get the number of days in writing before anything starts.

What one firm actually looks like
On most jobs the joinery changes hands between the frame, the fit-out and the finish. These are the three stages we take on ourselves, and we bring in the electrician, plasterer and tiler when a job needs them. See fifteen of the jobs.
01First fix
The frame
Studwork, joists, roof timbers and door linings. The part nobody photographs and everything later hangs off. If this is out, every door and skirting after it is out too.
02Second fix
The fit-out
Doors hung, kitchens and wardrobes set, skirting and architrave scribed in. This is where a job either starts to look right or starts to look approximate.
03Handover
The finish
Skirting, architrave, wall panelling and bespoke furniture, and the last few millimetres. The bit people actually see.

The job is checked, the working area is left clean and tidy, and we walk it with you. You pay the balance once you are happy.

Anthracite grey French doors
Supplied and fitted four sets of anthracite grey French doors. The hardware was upgraded to satin nickel/chrome handles and Ultion thumb-turn cylinders (a thumb-turn lets you lock and unlock from inside without a key), keyed alike so one key opens every lock.
Extension roof and floor structure
Joinery for a local builder on a house extension. That meant the structural timber roof and the floor, working alongside the other trades on site.
