Supplied and fitted, or fit only
Two ways to do this, and the right one depends on how far you have already got.
Supplied and fitted. We work out what the room can take, get you the units, the worktops and the ironmongery, and fit the lot. One price, one firm, one number to ring if something is wrong.
Fit only. You have already bought the kitchen, from a showroom or one of the sheds, and you need an independent kitchen fitter to put it in. That is labour only: you own the boxes, we own the fitting. It is the half of this trade nobody explains, and it is completely normal.
Either way the quotation says which of the two it is, in writing, before anything is ordered.
What a kitchen fit actually involves
The joinery half of a kitchen, which is most of it. The plumbing, the electrics and the tiling are sorted around it.
Taking the old one out
- Rip-out and disposal of the old kitchen
- Making good the walls and floor underneath, which is never as flat as it looked
- Any studwork, boxing-in or pipe boxing the new layout needs
Fitting the new one
- Base and wall units, levelled and scribed to the wall
- Worktops
- Sinks and the cut-outs for them
- Appliance openings and integrated appliance housings
The bits that make it look built-in
- End panels, plinths and filler panels
- Cornice, pelmet and door alignment
- Larder units and boot-room style storage
- Media walls, wall panelling and alcove units where the kitchen runs into the living space
Around the kitchen
- Flooring, including LVT (luxury vinyl tile) and engineered wood
- Skirting, architrave and the door into the room
- Altering an existing kitchen rather than replacing it, if that is the better call

One firm, not four numbers in your phone
The usual way a kitchen goes wrong is the gap between the trades on it. The fitter is finished, the electrician cannot come until Thursday, and the tiler will not start until the electrician has been.
Alex runs the whole job instead. He does the plumbing and the groundworks himself, and brings in a qualified electrician, a plasterer and a tiler when the job needs them. You get one point of contact and one person sequencing it, rather than four numbers in your phone and a week of nobody turning up.

What a kitchen fit costs
A kitchen is priced in days at Alex’s own day rate, and you see the number of days in writing, in a free quote, before anything is booked.
How much does a joiner charge per day?
£250 to £300.
Box & Beam’s own day rate, not a market average.
How much does it cost to fit a kitchen?
By the day.
Labour is the day rate times the days it takes, not a price per unit. You get the number of days in writing before anything is ordered.
Do you provide a written quotation?
Free, always.
A visit, proper measurements, then the scope and the cost in writing, including whether it is supplied and fitted or fit only. Quotes and site visits cost nothing.
Is there a minimum job?
No minimum.
Swapping four doors and a worktop counts. So does taking the room back to the walls.

A new kitchen fitted in a timber lodge holiday let in Longframlington: base and wall units, worktops, the sink, the hob and the oven.
Kitchen installations and alterations
A number of kitchens fitted or altered. The work covered base and wall units, worktops, sinks, appliance openings and the joinery around them, and some were existing kitchens adapted rather than ripped out.
Refurbishing several rental properties
Joinery and refurbishment across several rental properties: replacement kitchens and worktops, rotten floor joists and flooring, internal doors, skirting, handrails, newels and spindles (the posts and uprights of a staircase), loft hatches and general repairs. It was a bigger job, and Alex coordinated the other trades on it.

A deposit secures the booking and we agree a start date. Materials get ordered and any other trades get scheduled before anybody turns up.

Out with the old, in with the new. You get told what is happening, and anything unexpected gets discussed before extra work is done, not after.

Check it and hand it over
The job gets checked over, the working area is left clean and tidy, and Alex walks through the finished kitchen with you before the final balance is paid.

Kitchen questions
Can you supply and fit a kitchen, or only fit one I have bought?
Both, depending on the job. Some customers want the whole thing sorted, so we work out what the room takes, supply the units and the worktops, and fit them. Others have already bought a kitchen from a showroom or one of the sheds and need a joiner to put it in. That second one is labour only, and it is completely normal.
Can you organise the plumber, electrician, plasterer and other trades?
Yes, all of them. On a kitchen that is the difference between one start date and four, and one phone number instead of four.
Do you remove and dispose of the old kitchen?
Yes, the rip-out and the disposal are part of the job unless you have asked to keep something, and the working area is left clean and tidy at the end of it.
Can you help with choosing materials and the best way to approach it?
That is most of what the measuring visit is for. Room layouts, what the walls and floor will actually take, which materials earn their money in a kitchen and which ones are there to look good in a brochure. You get an opinion, not a catalogue.
How long will a kitchen fit take?
It depends on the size of the room and what turns up behind the old units. You get the number of days in writing with the quote, and because the price is the day rate times those days, the two cannot drift apart.
Is there a deposit, and when is the rest due?
Once you are happy with the written quote, a deposit secures the booking and we agree a start date together. The balance is paid at the end, after Alex has walked you through the finished kitchen and you are happy with it.

Your kitchen fitter across Newcastle upon Tyne and Northumberland
