Alex Parkinson, the joiner behind Box & Beam

Alex is a time-served joiner based in Morpeth, with experience in joinery and on-site work since 2015. He takes a hands-on approach to each project, carrying out the joinery and plumbing while coordinating electricians, plasterers and tilers as required.

His partner, Vicky, helps manage enquiries and the day-to-day running of the business. Together, they offer a friendly, personal service, keeping customers informed from the first visit through to the finishing touches.

Alex Parkinson and Vicky Short, who run Box and Beam Joinery, with their dog

Alex, Vicky and Box & Beam

Box & Beam is run by Alex Parkinson and his partner, Vicky Short. Alex does the joinery and the work on site. Vicky runs things behind the scenes: she looks after enquiries, the organising and the day-to-day running of the business, so the person on your job is free to get on with it.

Alex has worked in joinery since leaving school. He has done the lot: skirting boards and internal doors, kitchens, bathrooms, bespoke pieces, and hand-cut roofs (roofs built from loose timber on site rather than delivered as ready-made trusses). He has also worked in supervisory roles in the rail and construction industries, managing teams and projects.

Box & Beam began as a shipping container conversion business, and that work still goes on. But joinery was always his main trade, the one he has done since leaving school, so it is what the business is built on now.

What they want is simple: from the first conversation to the finishing touches, you should feel your job is in good hands. That means careful work, straight answers, and customers who ring them again.

“For me, focusing Box & Beam on joinery and property improvements was the natural next step, sticking to the trade I know best while having the right people around me to deliver projects from start to finish.”Alex Parkinson

What you are covered by

Public liability insurance to £5m with Markel, and employers’ liability insurance on top. Copies of the certificates are yours on request.

CSCS carded, which is the card that shows a tradesperson is trained and qualified to be on a building site. DBS checked, a criminal record check, because you are handing over your keys. And SSSTS qualified, the construction industry’s safety training for site supervisors.

Every job carries a 12 month guarantee on the workmanship.

The guarantee is on top of your legal rights, not instead of them. The law already says the work has to be done with reasonable care and skill, and nothing in the guarantee shortens or limits that. The full terms of the guarantee are in writing with every quotation.

Alex prices by the day, at £250 to £300, and your written quote sets out the scope and the full cost before any work starts.

And you pay the final balance once Alex has walked you through the finished work and you are happy with it.

What people say

Alex fitted four sets of French doors and did a great job. Polite and no mess. Highly recommended.

Alex is just such a good guy. Honest hardworking and as straight as they come. Couldn’t recommend him enough top job every time 🙏

Alex has been out a few times to help us with various jobs in the house. He is always polite, reliable and punctual! All of his work is completed to a high standard, you can see he clearly takes pride in what he does! We would highly recommend box and beam to anyone!

Had Alex in to fit all the doors in my house. He did a fantastic job fitting them promptly for a fair price. He even shaved them to fit the door frames properly after we bought slightly bigger doors from an external supplier. He is friendly and a good laugh, who likes to turn up and do a good job for his customers. Would highly recommend. Attached photos of 2 of the doors he fitted on the day.

Really happy with the work from Box and Beam Joinery. Good quality work, turned up when they said they would and got the job done properly. Easy to deal with and no messing about. Would definitely recommend them.
